Intuition and staying positive
How can intuition help us to stay more positive?
When I was much younger I was not very interested in political affairs because I found them to be way too intellectual and miles away from the world of music and metaphysics in which I thrived. Yet, when I became a mother and a householder, I found myself, getting more and more interested in the mundane affairs of government and world politics. I remember how much this surprised me at the time, but now I know it is because I was becoming increasingly connected with the everyday world due to my concern for the safety of my family, my children’s future, and the future of an increasingly stressed planet.
Intuïtieve ontwikkeling
It is interesting how much we can change based upon the varying concerns of our daily life and what it encompasses. As some of you may have already read in my newest book Intuitieve ontwikkeling: vijf-en-twintig jaar later, I felt extremely hopeful of American politics when I returned to my native land with my family of six in 1993. But this was to change completely at the advent of the new millennium and especially as I watched my country invade the country of Iraq with bombs. What kind of nightmare was I witnessing? I found it difficult to believe.
Spirit
Tonight I just watched the newest president of my country deliver a powerful speech about not giving up in the face of an enormous amount of pessimism. It is not that he is without his own flaws; yet, in watching him and his resolute and positive spirit, I know just how much I am yearning to stay in touch, like him, with my optimistic outlook---for my country, for my world, and for the future of all living creatures, great and small.
So…how can intuition help you and me to stay more positive when all we can see and feel sometimes is doom and gloom? How can a sensitive person witness the recent destruction in Haiti and not wonder how we will all get through it? How can we not be beside ourselves with fear of war, poverty, crime, sickness, global warming, etc., etc.??
Breathe
It begins with deep breaths, in and out of our belly. Deep breaths of life-affirming hope with each in-breath and releasing all fear and resistance with each out-breath. And if we can manage this, then we can imagine that our body is connected to our Mother Earth with loving tendrils which can travel deep into her belly saying “Hello! I love you so much!” And then these tendrils are sending back Her message to us saying, “Hello! I love you so much, too!”
Energy
If we have managed to get ourselves this far, we can begin to feel our body surrounded by a powerful field of positive energy and light. This beautiful energy and light is streaming into us from the radiant golden sun above our head, flowing into us and making us strong and safe, warm and happy. We can bask in this healing energy, whether we can imagine it or not. It is still there, no matter what. (Doesn’t the sun still shine on a cloudy day?) We can say “Hello!” to ourselves and not worry about anything for this moment. We can continue to feel our sunlit in-and-out breath and keep on releasing negativity, fear, and resistance. Keep on inhaling powerful sun-strength, affirming that life is good. Just for this moment, this is all we need to think about.
Let it flow
Then, we can rub our hands together, feeling the energy building up. If we can feel it, that is great. But even if we don’t feel this energy, it is still there. It is the healing energy each one of us possesses, whether we claim it or not. It is still there. And, if we want to, we can hold up our healing hands and imagine that we are sending positive energy to anyplace in the world we like. To Haiti or Darfur, to heads of government, to a sick child, to an aging parent, to the entire globe. Anywhere we like. It is our birthright and we can give ourselves permission to receive it and then to share it. It is that simple.
Optimism is not something we need to force out of ourselves. It is an inherent quality we need to reclaim. Optimism is what and who we are and, just like mother’s milk, the more we give of it, the more we produce. Intuitieve Ontwikkeling gives us the tools to nurture ourselves and our world with the life-giving sustenance of optimism.
