Greetings, and thanks for taking a few minutes with me. I’m excited about my upcoming trip to The Netherlands and to make new friends in Amsterdam and Goirle. The topic of both of the April workshops there is The Manifestation Wheel. I adapted this Wheel from the ancient Lakota Medicine Wheel—you can read more about it on my website. However, what I would like to share with you here is the short version of my story of career manifestation using the tools and concepts of this work.
When I finished my graduate degree in voice performance, my goal was to have a nice singing career in New York City, but more importantly to teach singers who sang on the biggest stages of the world. I followed the usual route of singing lots of auditions and getting some singing jobs with orchestras and for solo recitals in various places and soon moved to New York. There I began teaching and establishing relationships with people in the opera and music theater business. As my students began having success in their careers, more students came and by the time I celebrated my 40th birthday, I had reached my goal. My students were singing leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, on Broadway, and in most of the major opera houses in Europe. I reached that goal in a fairly traditional way of hard work, networking, keeping my focus, and “playing the political game” in the music world. It wasn’t always fun, but I did it and I suppose it paid off in that I was successful by most people’s standards.
However, within the next few years I began noticing a discontent deep within the heart of my being. I was successful and well established in my profession, I was very good at what I was doing, yet I wasn’t learning any more. I was no longer feeling challenged to grow. Something was stirring in my heart that ultimately set me on a new path.
In my desire to learn and grow, I began teaching workshops for performers in energy and self-discovery, helping them understand how energy moved through them during performances and how blocks in their energy, whether physical or emotional, also kept them from reaching their greatest potential as performers. Little did I know then that this was the beginning of a new life. And here is where the manifestation principles began to show up, even though I didn’t consciously understand them at the time.
Somehow intuitively I knew to listen to my heart and to pay attention to what opportunities showed up when I followed my heart. Soon participants in the performance workshops began asking if I could teach them more about intuition and how to perceive and work with energy. And so I began teaching intuitive development courses. From there my soul started nudging me to write a book. That book became Intuitive Living. Because I couldn’t find a publisher, I published the book myself because I knew this was what I had to do. Within two years a publisher bought it and another new chapter in this story began.
As I continued listening to my soul for guidance, I noticed that more and more people were coming to me for spiritual guidance as well as for singing lessons. Then around 2000, I began hearing about this profession called life coaching and realized that was where I was being asked to go next. “Where I was being asked to go next” was the key. I had a new awareness that there were things that “wanted to happen” in my life and if I would pay attention to them and “partner” with them, they would happen.
So I enrolled in coach training in 2001 and by 2003 I had completely shifted my career from teaching singers to life coaching. How did that happen? I just kept paying attention to what wanted to happen and following that energy. Soon my publisher asked for a second book and I told her I wanted to write a book on paradigm shifting. However, as I listened to the book that wanted to be written, I ended up writing a book on soul mission or life purpose. Luckily the publisher liked the new concept and my second book was published.
All through this process I had stopped setting goals in my life and just focused on what was showing up next and wanting to happen—what was I being asked for and how was I being asked to serve the world. One thing kept leading to another and now I teach workshops throughout North America and Europe. New doors are beginning to open for other parts of the world as well. The third book came along in 2008, another in 2009, and the next one, on the topic of transformational presence, is on its way. If you had told me 20 years ago that I would write books and become known for my work in leadership and presence coaching, I would have thought you were crazy!
Manifestation is not about making things happen. It is about listening deeply to your life to hear what your life is asking you for, and then creating the optimum conditions for that to develop and grow. Manifestation is about alignment of your thoughts, beliefs, intentions, behavior, actions, and habits not just with what you want, but more importantly with what wants to happen. This is the key.
I invite you to join us and explore what manifestation might mean in your life. What is wanting to happen next in reaching your greatest potential? What is the service the world is asking you for? What are the gifts you are here to share with your world? We each have a purpose for being here and gifts to share. Some of us are called to give our gifts to our families and our communities, others of us are called to share those gifts in much bigger arenas. All are important. What is the difference you are called to make?
So join us for one of these workshops and learn more about how to turn your visions and dreams into reality—how to make the difference you are called to make for your world.
